Yes I have decided that I’m going to change my name and run from WordPress

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Is probably the word going through your head.

But YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

Or rather, FUCK YES. I’m going to do it. Wait, don’t go. DON’T CLOSE THIS PAGE. Hear me out! I have decided to change my name to

LordofGeek

Also, I’m going to switch back to blogger. (blogspot) Yeah, I know that people think that blogspot is really unprofessional and things like that. But it has really really changed and I feel compelled to give it a chance. That is not the main reason though.

The main reason is that I’ve decided to get back to the coding and designing scene. Without a premium membership I just can’t do that on wordpress. I’m a geek after all. I like to half full control over the code in my own damn blog. So I’m going to learn from the start again how to make a good website.

Yes, there’s no need to remind me how much this name means. I know fully well how much this means to me. But like I’ve said before, all things come to an end. I feel that this is the time where I need to say goodbye to my past self and take a brave step forward. It will take a lot of getting use to a name that has stuck with me for 4 years.

Sigh, I’m feeling a little sentimental now.

Just trust me, this is definitely worth it. For the moment, I will continue to update both blogs at the same time, up until Monday, 10th October 2011, before I officially make the switch over.

So that you know, you have time to update your bookmarks (come on, if you don’t, now’s time to bookmark lordofgeek). Or get used to visiting that site instead of this.

I guess that it’s always the holidays that I do really crazy stuffs like these. Again, it’s probably because I have the time to do it. So yeah, go on, the next chapter in life has just opened for me. Hopefully it would for all of you too.

Let’s go!

I want to change the name of this blog

Wait wait wait, before you object. Let me explain why.

First and foremost, the word xtechbiz, has no meaning. I don’t even remember why I came up with that word.

Most of the famous/successful/good blogs have a proper name. And when I say a proper name, it doesn’t need to be something sensible. It just needs to have a meaning. Like, people would put their favourite things, or their names, or some words that make sense.

It’s usual fine if the name does not make sense, but it needs to be easy to remember. It also needs to not sound stupid. (when you say it out loud in your head)

To be brutally honest, xtechbiz fulfils none of those.

Also, the thing of having that senseless name for such a long time is starting to rub me off the wrong way. I’m fine with it as an email address or whatsoever, just, not a blog’s name.

For the first time ever, I’m going to have a poll. Please, if you’re one of the few who visits this blog regularly, just vote, it won’t take a minute. I have a couple of ideas. Of course, you could submit your own suggestions and I’ll take a look.

Vote please!

If the results is conclusive I’ll try my best to wrap up everything in 2 days (:

The meaning of happiness

forced-smile

“There is no light without darkness.”

Well. That’s probably the main point of this entire post.

Few months ago, I wrote that I want to make myself happy.

What I want. - Windows Live Writer_2011-05-24_17-59-56

And it’s the holidays now! So I have some time to think about things I usually don’t have time for. As usual, it’s the strangest string of events that lead me to think about this.

  1. Going out
  2. Staying home
  3. Doing things alone (hobby)
  4. Playing games with other people
  5. Playing games alone
  6. Trying something new
  7. Sticking to things I’m used to

Something like that. Example of hobby could be drawing photography or some geeky stuffs. And trying new things can be learning hard stuffs online or drawing on a tablet, and sticking to things I’m used to can be just using pencil and paper, or just sticking to the tech stuffs I know.

So yeah, I would say that there is SOME SORT of link between all of them.

“Well, I’m doing what I want without much stress/responsibilities right now. Am I happy?”

That thought came to my mind. If I had to choose no matter what, I guess, yeah, I’m happy.

Here’s the history of this blog to celebrate the 1000th post

Well… where should I start…

It all started 6 years ago. I was just a kid then, and the internet was still pretty much in it’s infancy. If I can recall, I started when I was still using a Pentium III computer. I’m not sure if WordPress was out yet, but if it was, it was probably too clunky for me to use at that time. blogger

So I defaulted to Blogger, which most of my friends were using. (some were using livejournal, hipsters)

I started with the URL of freedomstrike@blogspot. Well, mainly because I was infatuated with Gundam Seed Destiny at that point in time. And there Strike_Freedom_Gundam_by_Albertos719was this Gundam called Freedom Strike. Besides, it’s a pretty unique URL at that point in time and it was easy to remember.

Also, that was my introduction to the HTML world. I think I got interested in computers and technology, probably because I was so crazy about tweaking the HTML for my blog at that time. It was the prime of HTML 4 along with XHTML. Not forgetting Javascript and all the funny little things you could do to your webpage. (loading music automatically was probably the most annoying)

So that name continued for 2 years. It wasn’t really a part of my life then. I just blogged as and when I felt like it. Though I THINK I did try to post everyday (failed pretty badly)

And then, I hit the 500th post! It was a pretty huge thing to me then, as all my post were, proper, wordy post, and not like this… kind of blog. So at the end of 2007 (November) I was thinking…

I am exposing too much personal data into the internet.

At that time, I wanted freedomstrike to get as much views as possible. So I tinkered with DNS search and how Google finds my blog and stuffs like that. When you search for freedomstrike, my blog will come up as the first result. If you search my real name, my blog will come up as the first result. Well, many many things to trick Google into thinking that my blog is some really important website.

Well, it was KIND OF a success. As my blog hits and average of 50views per day with regular peaks at around 70?

But well, that was a stupid move, so I decided to change my entire identity. For some reason, I ended up with this name x-techbiz. It became my blog url. x-techbiz@BS. Yay! It continued for another 500 posts. I renewed the blog at the end of 2009. Retaining the URL, that continued for another 182 posts. (August 22, 2010) Before I thought, well, fuck blogger.

“Hello WordPress!”

And here I am. Now, the history of this wonderful little blog. To be fully honest, I had this URL since June 2009. I didn’t want anyone stealing my name in case I was making the switch!

If you notice, the dash – disappeared because WordPress didn’t allow it. Well, it’s a little sad but it doesn’t really make the name any easier to pronounce.

So, this blog OFFICIALLY opened at August 2010. It’s been 1 year 1 month since then. At first, I was planning to just write a lot of random online articles for the fun of it, however, one of my good friends told me that, it is pointless to do what everyone else is doing. Just remain the same, and that’ll be your style of writing.

It made perfect sense to me,
so I stuck with this until now.

From there on, I began witness the growth of this blog. Readers are starting to come back more and more often. (even though they just refuse to comment on anything). I started posting a lot of random videos that I want to share with everyone. (or just myself).

Now, to witness the growth. The first full month, I had only 639 views.

Untitled 2

I had 3,166 views on August. Well, it averages at roughly 100 a day. Um, I’ve got to say that I have came a long long way from that kid I was 6 years ago. the week or day view probably wouldn’t make much sense as it fluctuates a lot.

Week view

Sadly, and interestingly, I have 12 subscribers. I don’t really know what to make of it. But I’m glad that there are people who are willing to subscribe to it!

As far as comments go, much thanks to superjessleong for posting a whooping total of 408 comments! The rare people that actually make me feel like I’m not totally talking to myself. That’s more or less about it! I’m not going to bore you with all the searches and tags.

Moving on to the future.

Now that I’ve hit my goal of a thousand posts, where will I go from here? I mean, I will obviously continue to blog. But… Will it still be here on WordPress? Or will I feel like going back to Blogger? The answer is…..

WordPress!

Because well, we all know that relationships with ex-es will never work out. As much as Blogger has improved and proves to be a desirable blogging platform, I feel a sense of loyalty towards WordPress that has accompanied me for the past year. I’ll continue trying to improve my writing so that it’s worth reading, and the next 1000 posts,

HERE I COMEEEEEEEE!!

Social networks are pathetic

“You are a loser.”

That’s basically what I’m trying to say. So well, if you’re too lazy to read this, then at least know that that’s true!

facebook

Twitter

Myspace_Logo

foursquare

If you use any of these services (unless for commercial purposes) you’re pretty much a loser. Which makes me a huge one. Not the point though.

The point is that, twitter has the highest “loserish” value of them all.

Before that, let’s start with the most popular one. Facebook. Why is it bullshit? Well, to be brutally honest, the main two things that people do is just

1. Gain popularity by posting unrealistically gorgeous photos of yourself.

2. Stalk people who does 1.

(note: I had to stress unrealistic)
Or, you could post pictures of yourself being out and about, having fun and things like that. But why would anyone care if you’re a fugly shit? Because they won’t. Unless you’re really good at Photoshop, or just plain beautiful.

In which case, it really doesn’t matter what kind of photos you post online because people are going to click on it anyway.

On the other hand it does makes planning outings, or sharing the pictures from outings really easy and convenient, though, you’re basically just sharing all your personal info with a third party company, expecting them to be fully considerate about your personal privacy, Well, you see where I’m going with this.

Since Myspace is similar, I shall talk about it.

But since Myspace is pretty much dead, there isn’t much I can say about it.

Moving on to Foursquare. Um, I don’t know why it needs to be said but, do you really need to tell everyone where you are? I get the whole idea of, if you’re able to see if your friends are nearby, you can like hang out and do shits like that.

Honestly, who the f- does that?

(Okay I’ll be using the fb check-in in conjunction with Foursquare cause it’s the same thing)

I mean, the only thing you’re doing is just to show off to everyone that

HELLO, I WAS HERE WITH THIS BUNCH OF PEOPLE!!

Yes, it could be fun and all, but I really don’t see the point of it all. Even if you don’t think about the consequences of telling everyone your physical location. It seems like a pretty stupid idea. Why would I want to know where you are unless I’m interested in you?

It just opens up a whole new avenue of stalking. So it’s like you’re intentionally wanting people to stalk you. Well, what a loser.

TWITTER

Well, I’m pretty much shooting myself in the foot by saying this but really, who cares about what’s going on in your life? I don’t know, maybe I’m not really interested in other people’s lives.

The only reason I can see for it’s existence, is to post status updates about your boring life, your complains and whatnots for the world to see. When everyone does the same thing, it gives other people the opportunity to see how much other peoples’ lives suck. And make them feel better about their own.

The upside is, once in a while, something interesting happens in your life and people reply you. Honestly, how often do people reply to your tweets? 140 characters really isn’t enough to describe your situation. So people think of clever words to spike interest in other people so that they can get at least some kind of reaction.

If you count the amount of tweets you have, and the amount of times someone actually said something about it (or retweet). Imagine if it was a real life scenario. Man, you’ll be such a dick.

In general, though social networks binds you and your friends closer together, it pretty much shows the sad state of the society. Where everyone lead such boring lives.

“And outside of that social circle,
I sit alone in a blog,
whining about it.
Sigh, such is life.

What is justice?

Please watch this video before you read my post. Or it would not make as much sense.
(I mean, if you’re going to read something as long as this, might as well just spend a little time to understand a little more about morality)

Okay firstly, I have watched the other videos up to episode 3. But for this post, I shall respond directly to this episode 1. My philosophy will still apply to the other videos I’ve watched so far. However, for the sake of simplicity. I will go with the case by case scenario with the video that I’ve posted.

Plan B

This… is definitely going to be really confusing because there’s 3 stuffs that lead to this post.

1. A documentary I watched sometime ago.

2. Forgetting to go for the first paper.

3. Me walking home.

Here goes the hardest post I’m going to ever write. (because it’s going to take a heck lot of effort to link everything together)

So the documentary was about a guy who survived in the ocean for 3days. Without food or water, with no boat or whatsoever, just floating.

Basically, he was sky diving, but the plane he was on fucked up, and crashed into the ocean, they managed to jump off before the plane crashed. However, he was separated from his friends, and it’s really hard to get rid of the parachute because they’re in water. And apparently, all his friends died shortly after the jump and he was stranded all alone with nothing, literally nothing at all in the middle of the ocean.

He had no ways of communications, he had no rations, nothing. Just a chute that he had to cut away from (or he’ll get dragged down with it). He managed to find a piece of wood of some sort and clung onto it for as long as he can. But, as he floated towards what seems like land to him, he thought for very long but decided that, he had to abandon the log in order for him to swim there (too heavy). But by abandoning the log, he would lose his only support (which he had clung onto for 2days+)

Half way through swimming, he got scared, and swam back to the safety of the log. and he wasted precious energy. As time goes by, he realized that, he’s getting further and further away from the shore, and it was a do or die situation, he gathered all his courage to let go of the log, and swam as hard as he could towards the shore, but to no avail. He had given up all hope and just decided to let nature decide his fate. By some miracle, a fisherman happened to come pass and spotted him and rescued him, allowing him to live to tell the tale.

It is really really incredible, sadly I forgot what his name was.
