I have officially moved to LordofGeek,
please visit there instead!
Is probably the word going through your head.
Or rather, FUCK YES. I’m going to do it. Wait, don’t go. DON’T CLOSE THIS PAGE. Hear me out! I have decided to change my name to
Also, I’m going to switch back to blogger. (blogspot) Yeah, I know that people think that blogspot is really unprofessional and things like that. But it has really really changed and I feel compelled to give it a chance. That is not the main reason though.
The main reason is that I’ve decided to get back to the coding and designing scene. Without a premium membership I just can’t do that on wordpress. I’m a geek after all. I like to half full control over the code in my own damn blog. So I’m going to learn from the start again how to make a good website.
Yes, there’s no need to remind me how much this name means. I know fully well how much this means to me. But like I’ve said before, all things come to an end. I feel that this is the time where I need to say goodbye to my past self and take a brave step forward. It will take a lot of getting use to a name that has stuck with me for 4 years.
Sigh, I’m feeling a little sentimental now.
Just trust me, this is definitely worth it. For the moment, I will continue to update both blogs at the same time, up until Monday, 10th October 2011, before I officially make the switch over.
So that you know, you have time to update your bookmarks (come on, if you don’t, now’s time to bookmark lordofgeek). Or get used to visiting that site instead of this.
I guess that it’s always the holidays that I do really crazy stuffs like these. Again, it’s probably because I have the time to do it. So yeah, go on, the next chapter in life has just opened for me. Hopefully it would for all of you too.
Wait wait wait, before you object. Let me explain why.
First and foremost, the word xtechbiz, has no meaning. I don’t even remember why I came up with that word.
Most of the famous/successful/good blogs have a proper name. And when I say a proper name, it doesn’t need to be something sensible. It just needs to have a meaning. Like, people would put their favourite things, or their names, or some words that make sense.
It’s usual fine if the name does not make sense, but it needs to be easy to remember. It also needs to not sound stupid. (when you say it out loud in your head)
To be brutally honest, xtechbiz fulfils none of those.
Also, the thing of having that senseless name for such a long time is starting to rub me off the wrong way. I’m fine with it as an email address or whatsoever, just, not a blog’s name.
For the first time ever, I’m going to have a poll. Please, if you’re one of the few who visits this blog regularly, just vote, it won’t take a minute. I have a couple of ideas. Of course, you could submit your own suggestions and I’ll take a look.
If the results is conclusive I’ll try my best to wrap up everything in 2 days (:
Well… where should I start…
It all started 6 years ago. I was just a kid then, and the internet was still pretty much in it’s infancy. If I can recall, I started when I was still using a Pentium III computer. I’m not sure if WordPress was out yet, but if it was, it was probably too clunky for me to use at that time.
So I defaulted to Blogger, which most of my friends were using. (some were using livejournal, hipsters)
I started with the URL of freedomstrike@blogspot. Well, mainly because I was infatuated with Gundam Seed Destiny at that point in time. And there was this Gundam called Freedom Strike. Besides, it’s a pretty unique URL at that point in time and it was easy to remember.
So that name continued for 2 years. It wasn’t really a part of my life then. I just blogged as and when I felt like it. Though I THINK I did try to post everyday (failed pretty badly)
And then, I hit the 500th post! It was a pretty huge thing to me then, as all my post were, proper, wordy post, and not like this… kind of blog. So at the end of 2007 (November) I was thinking…
I am exposing too much personal data into the internet.
At that time, I wanted freedomstrike to get as much views as possible. So I tinkered with DNS search and how Google finds my blog and stuffs like that. When you search for freedomstrike, my blog will come up as the first result. If you search my real name, my blog will come up as the first result. Well, many many things to trick Google into thinking that my blog is some really important website.
Well, it was KIND OF a success. As my blog hits and average of 50views per day with regular peaks at around 70?
But well, that was a stupid move, so I decided to change my entire identity. For some reason, I ended up with this name x-techbiz. It became my blog url. x-techbiz@BS. Yay! It continued for another 500 posts. I renewed the blog at the end of 2009. Retaining the URL, that continued for another 182 posts. (August 22, 2010) Before I thought, well, fuck blogger.
And here I am. Now, the history of this wonderful little blog. To be fully honest, I had this URL since June 2009. I didn’t want anyone stealing my name in case I was making the switch!
If you notice, the dash – disappeared because WordPress didn’t allow it. Well, it’s a little sad but it doesn’t really make the name any easier to pronounce.
So, this blog OFFICIALLY opened at August 2010. It’s been 1 year 1 month since then. At first, I was planning to just write a lot of random online articles for the fun of it, however, one of my good friends told me that, it is pointless to do what everyone else is doing. Just remain the same, and that’ll be your style of writing.
It made perfect sense to me,
so I stuck with this until now.
From there on, I began witness the growth of this blog. Readers are starting to come back more and more often. (even though they just refuse to comment on anything). I started posting a lot of random videos that I want to share with
everyone. (or just myself).
Now, to witness the growth. The first full month, I had only 639 views.
I had 3,166 views on August. Well, it averages at roughly 100 a day. Um, I’ve got to say that I have came a long long way from that kid I was 6 years ago. the week or day view probably wouldn’t make much sense as it fluctuates a lot.
Sadly, and interestingly, I have 12 subscribers. I don’t really know what to make of it. But I’m glad that there are people who are willing to subscribe to it!
As far as comments go, much thanks to superjessleong for posting a whooping total of 408 comments! The rare people that actually make me feel like I’m not totally talking to myself. That’s more or less about it! I’m not going to bore you with all the searches and tags.
Moving on to the future.
Now that I’ve hit my goal of a thousand posts, where will I go from here? I mean, I will obviously continue to blog. But… Will it still be here on WordPress? Or will I feel like going back to Blogger? The answer is…..
Because well, we all know that relationships with ex-es will never work out. As much as Blogger has improved and proves to be a desirable blogging platform, I feel a sense of loyalty towards WordPress that has accompanied me for the past year. I’ll continue trying to improve my writing so that it’s worth reading, and the next 1000 posts,
HERE I COMEEEEEEEE!!
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Well, in the previous post where I said that I feel frustrated by how people can have such indifference to to wonders around the world.
I think, I may have solved a part of it.
Well, I think, I’m kinda old enough to say, people from my generation. Managed to experience the most magical moment in history.
I think, those probably what opened my mind to all the magic in the world. The ideas that dared me to dream of the impossible. To make me dream of the beauty of what could be possible.
So. I’ve read an interesting little article.
Well, it doesn’t affect me but it might for some people out there. So basically, you know you’re so used to downloading free applications, those open source stuffs. Just to list a few examples.
Sometimes, the top link has been “hijacked” to make you believe that it’s the real website when actually it’s not. To make things simpler, here’s an image.

As you can see, because it’s an advertisement, it occupies the first link in the search. If you’re not careful, you might end up downloading some random program/virus that could potentially do harm to your computer.
Basically, from now on, please double check before you download anything. And maybe next time if you want to share a new app with your friend, give them the direct link rather than asking them to google it for themselves. Also, this seems to happen with bing and yahoo search as well. People say that installing ad-block helps but meh, I don’t believe in anything that slows my browser down.
Anyway, it seems that these links either happen on random, or it’s based on your geolocation. So well, if it doesn’t happen to you then great. Do help to spread the word about this potential threat (:
Alright guys, the Service Pack 1 for windows 7 is finally out.
Right now it is an optional update. Though as a geek I’ll say, if your operating system has an update, UPDATE IT. So anyway, it isn’t a terribly important update. It basically rounds up all the previous updates into one pack, and adds a couple of other functionalities.
So if you haven’t update your computer up till now. I think you should do it. Right NOW. Or just take your time. The update shouldn’t that too long.
So well um, in case you’re interested in the new features:
- Improved HDMI audio device performance: there’s a small update that helps reliability of HDMI audio devices after rebooting. This is listed as a feature in the release notes, but really feels like a bug fix.
- Corrected behavior when printing mixed-orientation XPS documents: If you’re trying to print XPS documents that have landscape and portrait pages in the same document, now they will print correctly. All 5 of you can now rejoice.
- Change to behavior of “Restore previous folders at logon” functionality: If you used the “Restore previous folders at logon” feature in Folder Options, the folders would restore into a cascaded set of windows. Now they will restore to where they were.
- Support for Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX): supports a newer processor extension that improves performance for floating point intensive applications.
- Improved Support for Advanced Format (512e) Storage Devices: hard drive manufacturers are transitioning to a new 4KB physical sector size, and now Windows 7 supports this better.
So uh, just go to Windows update, click on the important updates available and check the box and update.
Alternatively, you can download the ISO file directly from Microsoft. (not recommended if you’ve done previous updates)
So yeah! Cheers to the new update 😀
